I.教学目标和教学内容

Teaching aims and teaching contents

1.Teaching aims

Knowledge objectives:

Help the students grasp some important words and phrases to express themselves flexibly and accurately.

Skill objectives:

Help the students predict the main idea of the whole passage based on the title of the passage and the picture(s) given.

Help the students master the reading skills: skimming and scanning.

Emotional objectives:

Help the students learn to assess themselves in a proper way and make a wise plan for themselves.

Help the students build up sense of responsibility and promote their sense of pride for their own culture.

Help the students know that we cannot change the reality, but we can change ourselves. It is our attitude towards challenges that counts. Whatever happens to us, we are supposed to have positive attitudes and deal with the challenges wisely.

2.Teaching contents

This passage is about the challenge of a freshman, Adam and the way he solves his problems. During this period, the students are led to read and analyze the passage to find out problems and the way to solve the problems. By learning the challenge of Adam, the students come to realize that we should choose proper ways to solve the problems we are faced with and develop a sense of responsibility. Only in this way can we achieve more and create a better future for ourselves.

Teaching important points

Lead students to understand Adam’s experience and challenges as a freshman and help students to face their challenges bravely.

Teaching difficult points

How to help the students grasp some difficult sentences and express themselves in English properly.

II. 教学准备

Preparation of the teaching

1.The analysis of the students

The students in my class are freshmen who come from different junior schools. They are of different levels, diligent and creative. They have the passion for the new life and study of Senior High School. They are confident in themselves and are ready to face the challenges in the new school. They are enthusiastic about some activities such as individual work and group work which offer each of them more chances to practise their English and involve actively in the class to make some improvement.

2.The teaching materials& the teaching technology used in this period

I use multimedia and PPT in the class to enlarge the content and enrich the activities. Keep the teaching goals in mind and design the teaching task from the point of the students. Create friendly atmosphere for the students and ensure the safety of studying in the class. Organize the class activities based on the interaction and cooperation between teacher&students and students&students.

3.The teaching method

Students-centered approach; Task-based approach; Discussion in groups.

III. 教学过程

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

Present some pictures for students to appreciate and have a better understanding of the difference between the school life of Chinese students’ and that of foreign students’.
